Wreck-It Ralph is a 2012 American computer-animated comedy film produced by Walt Disney Animation Studios and released by Walt Disney Pictures. When Litwak’s Arcade closes at night, the various video game characters leave their normal in-game roles and socialize in a power strip. Wreck-It Ralph, the villain of the game Fix-It Felix Jr., is ostracized by its other characters, while the titular hero Felix is celebrated. After the game’s inhabitants exclude Ralph from their thirtieth-anniversary party, he sets out to earn a medal for himself to gain his neighbors’ respect.
Ralph overhears that he can win a medal from a first-person shooter, Hero’s Duty. He disrupts the game during a fight with Cy-Bugs to obtain the medal. He and a Cy-Bug are ejected from the game via an escape pod, crash landing in the game Sugar Rush, a candy-themed kart racing game.
Meanwhile, with Ralph missing, his game is labeled as malfunctioning. Felix worries that Ralph has “gone Turbo”—a term coined by the inhabitants of the arcade when racing game character Turbo, jealous of being overshadowed, attempted to take over a newer racing game RoadBlasters, which resulted in both of their games being unplugged. Felix ventures to Hero’s Duty and allies with the game’s heroine, Sergeant Calhoun, to retrieve Ralph.
